Our After School program helps kids to grow and develop in all areas of life . The program is made up of four parts: Academic Enrichment, Spiritual Growth, Leadership Development, and Balance Diet. Below is an explanation of each.
Academic Enrichment:
• One-On-One Homework Tutorial is an hour session that allows students to receive homework assistance from our experienced staff, interns and volunteers. If a student is struggling in a particular subject our staff will notify the student’s parents and develop a practice booklet pertaining to the subject so that the student can practice at the After-School Program and at home.
• Academic Evaluations. The After-School Program works closely with Jackson Public Schools and is aware of state testing, students’ academic progress, and behavior. It is mandatory that each student bring all progress reports and report cards to the After-School Program for evaluation. If we do not receive these two items we will notify the parents and teachers of the students.
• Philosophy. At the After-School Program we feel that it is imperative that we teach and practice good morals, values, and to have purpose. Every week our students study great philosophers and their philosophies and interpret them within their journal compositions.
• Journal Composition. The purpose of the journal composition is to enhance the students’ articulation abilities through writing and speech. Each day the students are given a topic to write about. To practice verbal skills the students are encouraged to read their journal entries aloud.
• Reading Comprehension. After homework, students are divided into small study groups by grade and assigned a book to read together. When the group is finished reading the assigned book, there will be a verbal test given to the group to ensure total comprehension of the selected literature.
Spiritual Growth:
• Good News Club is a child level chapel service that provides students with biblical knowledge, worship, and how to live for Christ. It helps develop students’ character, morals, values, and principles from a Christ-like perspective.
Leadership Development:
• The purpose of Boys & Girls Club is to train young boys and girls in the field of Christian community development. The training includes how to acknowledge problems, how to solve problems, time management, managing priorities, decision making, peer pressure, stress, and how to care for the community. Both groups are responsibility for completing a community service project in the city of Jackson once a month.
• The Recycling Club teaches our students how to be conscious of preserving used materials so that it can be used again to help the economy and environment.
• Gardening Club teaches the students how to grow foods from the earth and eat healthily.
Balanced Diet:
• The After-School Program believes that healthy eating and physical exercise are incredibly important. During our snack time we provide our student with healthy nutritious snacks that are good for their bodies. We also educate the students about the different foods and explain how it will make them feel better now and help their bodies in the future!
